Biscuits’ ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup Canola oil
- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- Grated peel of 1 orange
- 1 teaspoon Mahleb powder
- 875 g self-raising flour
For biscuits glazing:
- 1 tablespoon of orange jam
- 2 tablespoons warm water
Mix water with the jam so, you have the glaze
To make the biscuits:
- In a large bowl, mix the sugar with the orange peel using your hands.
- Add the orange juice and oil and mix well till the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the Mahleb powder then the flour and fold the mixture gently till you have a sticky smooth dough.
- Take a small ball out of the dough and roll into a rope shape then cut to equally small pieces.
- Roll each piece into rope shape and twist. See the illustration below.
- Line an oven tray with baking paper then arrange the biscuits on it.
- Bake in a pre-heated oven to 140 degree celsius.
- To glaze the biscuits, you need to remove them from the over before they’re entirely cooked. I usually do that when I notice that they start to get a golden colour.
- Return to oven for a complete bake.
- Let them cool down completely on a rack.
- Store in airtight container.
