Vegan Orange Biscuits

Biscuits’ ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Canola oil
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • Grated peel of 1 orange
  • 1 teaspoon Mahleb powder
  • 875 g self-raising flour

For biscuits glazing:

  • 1 tablespoon of orange jam
  • 2 tablespoons warm water

Mix water with the jam so, you have the glaze

To make the biscuits:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sugar with the orange peel using your hands.
  2. Add the orange juice and oil and mix well till the sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. Add the Mahleb powder then the flour and fold the mixture gently till you have a sticky smooth dough.
  4. Take a small ball out of the dough and roll into a rope shape then cut to equally small pieces.
  5. Roll each piece into rope shape and twist. See the illustration below.
  6. Line an oven tray with baking paper then arrange the biscuits on it.
  7. Bake in a pre-heated oven to 140 degree celsius.
  8. To glaze the biscuits, you need to remove them from the over before they’re entirely cooked. I usually do that when I notice that they start to get a golden colour.
  9. Return to oven for a complete bake.
  10. Let them cool down completely on a rack.
  11. Store in airtight container.
